Unplanned trip...

Wasn't planning on going anywere today, but we needed some gas for the generator. So while I was out, had a full tank, and was feeling better, I decided to take the long way... It only added an hr to the trip but was a pretty drive! I was also surprised to see so much water still flowing!

Enjoy the pics!

A post weekend update...

This past weekend we spent some time working and playing at the ranch. Friday we slept in, then got back to work on spring cleaning. I thought we really let things get out of hand this winter, but from the oher blogs I've read I see we're not alone in this chore.
Saturday we had two bithdays to celebrate, so between working on the new living digs, we had lunch, cake, and opened presents... Unfortunatly I was busy working while the women folk played games all afternoon... hey don't get mad at me, it's the truth.
So we were able to finish the plumbing in the new bathroom, and get to start the wireing next time I have a day off. With luck the bathroom will be complete by months end.

Weather wise it couldn't get better. Mid 70's all day, high 40's all night, it does look like spring is here.

A few notes...

A few days ago I added some links to (www.pioneeringaz.blogspot.com) of other blogs and other web sites dealing with either sustained living or off grid living. Not sure if anyone has had the oppurtunity to look at them or not. I just finished getting caught up with www.moderndayredneck.blogspot.com and their "mini-farm" an interesting read to say the least. We've been kicking around the idea of getting some livestock out here, and actually doing something with the land we have, but not just to sure if we want to work that hard...

While on the subject here is a good post from the Midern Day Redneck... www.moderndayredneck.blogspot.com/2010/02/miniature-cattle.html

It looks as though Spring has finally sprung here. The temp. has been above 60 during the day for almost a week now. The nights have been pleasent also, and yesterday was the first day that the heater didn't have to come on! Sounds like money in the bank to me. With the higher temps. and the first Rattler in the grave, we've spent the last few working days cleaning up the yard, and making it more user freindly. Also staked out a yard just for the dogs, and hope to get them set up soon, tired of them having free run of everything all the time (and eating every wire they see!).

You heard it here first....

Time Magazine has called living off the grid “one of the most important ideas of the next ten years.”

Time  Managing Editor Richard Stengel, says of the article “this isn’t a matter of just scaling back but also of reconceiving how we live. “   Reihan Salam writes about how in the 2010s, more and more people will live off the grid, working in a new underground economy that will fill in the gaps of the old one.

Some R&R, ranch style...

It rained all night and day, but once it cleared up I jumped on the quad and headed out, saw some nice country...

All in all a great ride, until I tried to take a short cut running ahead of another storm cloud and pushed to make it back to the ranch before dark... Needless to say that shortcut didn't work out, as a matter of fact I ended up going the wrong way, once I decided to back track it was already getting dark, running all out I didn't see the acacia limb, and took one across the face! Damn thorns cought me just under the right eye.... Oh well it was fun!
