Lost hiker

LOST PERSON: HUALAPAI MOUNTAIN PARK

About 3:30pm Tuesday (10/15) afternoon, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office received a call from the Hualapai Mountain Park reporting a 28-year-old female hiker who had become separated from her brother while hiking off the trail system towards a large boulder out-cropping earlier that afternoon. She was wearing a tank-top with capri pants and had no water or other supplies. Attempts to contact her by phone went straight to voicemail. The family attempted to search the area and after not finding any sign of her, they contacted the Ranger Station. The Park Ranger was able to locate a track near where she was last seen. Search and Rescue was activated and inserted tracking teams to her last known location and began following her track. In the meantime, a route and location search began along the roadway and trail system – along with establishing containment at trailheads and campsites. The Kingman DPS Ranger helicopter began searching trail systems and some rugged areas looking for signs of light, as she was carrying a lighter and may have created a warming fire as night had fell. Temperatures were in the low 50s. During the search, the Mohave County Sheriff's Office received a report from a resident in the Pine Lake Community that they had heard someone yelling for help. The Kingman DPS Helicopter was diverted to that area and located her with another person who had come to her aid. Search teams were directed to their location and brought her back to the Command Post. She was dehydrated and scratched up from hiking off trail, but was okay. It was estimated that she had hiked about seven miles before being found. Great job by everyone involved on this search! We want to remind everyone to make sure to pack some water and supplies when hiking and to be prepared for the unexpected. In the event you become lost – stay calm and stay put.

And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul
