It never fails...

I always have to go to work on the best days... Take today, end of August and its 70 degrees 8-10mph winds just a perfect day, and yep I have to work... Really wish I could find a way to not show up and still receive a paycheck...

Oh, I also checked the weather stations history, we had a wind chill of 49 this morning, and a high sustained wind of 35 yesterday! I love data...

Now that is what I call a storm!

I hope the picture turns out, it is of our rain gauge as of 5 am, and it is reading 1.25 inches, that was in one hour. Since we have to be in Prescott I've already been out scouting the roads. In a word bad. We have several exposed coverts and numerous ruts that we are going to have to crawl through. Of course we have to take the 2wd, it is the only thing big enough for everyone. Wish there was more light for pictures but I'm not waiting around for the sun...

Nothing exciting ever happens here...

Unless you have to be someplace early in the morning. We were awaken by the mother of all storms tonight. Of course we have to be in Prescott at 8am for little ones gymnastic competition. Rain, hail, thunder, so much lightning it looks like a strobe light is on.
So much rain in fact that the wash is running. That means that our 2wd blazer may be stuck down here, and with five people having to go, we'll never fit everyone in our Jeep. So disappointing for little one. So will have to wait till 5 am and see just how bad the roads are... And maybe a bit of shoveling is in order to get the job done...
Oh and so much rain in so little time, that we have sprung several leaks in our roof... Oh yea, we're roughing it now!

After the storm drive...

Although we didn't get the brunt of this storm here, it did cause a lot of damage to the main road. It actually took about a dozen yards of the road leaving a nice 6 foot drop on both sides of the big sandy wash. But hey the jeeps love that kinda challenge!

What a treat...

The rain has started again... Not as strong but just what we needed and just in the neck of time. Our road was getting very soft, in fact almost to soft. Just about got stuck the other day in our 2wd blazer. With a bit of luck and some hard work our road should be very passable by mid morning tomorrow...

So I guess it would be in my best interest to hit the sack and get some sleep....

Finally some rain!

Had a nice storm come through this afternoon... Just enough to wash out the road. Storm data from our place states a sustained wind of 22 mph with gusts op to 35. All in all we got a 1/2 inch of rain... Not bad in a total of 2 hours...

Oh and while I was locking the hubs on the ol Jeep, I had a lightning strick a few yards in front of me... Good times...

Just checked the weather data...

It reached a high of 108.7 yesterday afternoon around 2pm, since that was the highest temp recorded I guess you could say that the 105 today was a cooling trend... Oh and I won't talk about the inside temperatures!

Other than that, enjoy today's sunset...

Yesterday we celebrated my birthday...

From my wife and daughter I received a new weather station. Its nice not having to rely on data from Ceder Hills which isn't very far away, but is far enough to be different. I had a small station for the last few years which was nice but was very limited in sensors. This one does it all. Even shows dew point and has a rain guage (which would come in handy if we ever get any rain). I only wish it had a way to broadcast to my cell... Always wanting something more...

The drive home...

Our neighbor called to let us know that it was raining hard and asked if we had left any windows opened. We did. So I jumped in the Jeep and made my way home.
I was watching the sky, that was very dark, but I never seemed to get any closer to it. That's when it dawned on me that this was probably a fools errand. Once I get there it wasn't going to rain. In fact I was going to have to deal with a lot humidity and heat... I was right.
So now here I sit, storms all around, but not a drop here...

Picture test

Landscape or portrait?

For those regular visitors

There seems to be some change in the air here. One of our cohorts will be moving one again. This time only 7 miles away, on their own property. With luck they'll take away everything they learned about this crazy lifestyle and be just as comfortable on their own land.

As for us, we are still working at getting this place more livable. We have spent some more time outside cleaning up the clutter that seems to be attracted by the ongoing construction. We have spotted 3 sunspiders in the past couple of days, haven't seen any of those since we left town. I hope to have the bug problem under control, with sprying bug killer every couple of days around every window, door, and the base of the building.
On another note, we will be adding another solar panel to our array. Bringing our wattage up to 175. We're going to have so much wattage we won't know what to do with it all!

Another great ranch tool

For those Veggie Tale fans... "everyone has a Water baffalo"...

Ok now that I have that out of my system. We now have our own fire department. Well at least we have a way to get water to those hard to reach places...

My insanity on display www.pioneeringaz.blogspot.com

Nice day

Just an FYI, aluminum windows built by the JeldWen company are not bug proof. So to fix this problem I installed a Suntex solar screen kit. They fit perfect. To secure them I just used four window screen latches. This makes the window completely bug proof and will reduce the heat gain by 80% two pluses.

Not to let anything go to waste. I'm reusing the screen for the storm door, and the frame for a window in the front. Yep living green...

Good size storm...

We had a nice storm come through about 3am lots of lightning and thunder. Looks as though most of it will go east this morning though. With luck this will help our road a bit. It was getting very soft.
