TRUCKEE, Calif.. (KOLO) -A missing hiker was found dead on Sunday after being missing in Sierra County.

The Sierra County Sheriff's Office says his body was recovered from a ridge above Young America Lake by search and rescue members after being found by a California Highway Patrol helicopter.

Deputies say the hiker succumbed to his injuries after falling from the ridge-line

This situation originated when two brothers hiked to the Sierra Buttes Lookout north of California 49 about 37 miles northwest of Truckee on Saturday morning and took separate routes back to the car. One brother returned to the car and could not find his brother, then tried hiking back, but still could not find him.

The U.S. Forest Service and Sierra City Fire Department searched by ground and a California Highway Patrol airplane searched by air.
