I have so much that needs to be done today. Instead I'm sitting on the couch with a sleeping dog. 😂 Harley makes it impossible to get stuff done at times. She's either in the way or demanding attention. Sweet little girl, she had a rough week. For the first time in her life, she spent three full days away from everyone in her family. We had to board her this week for a family event where we couldn’t bring her with us. So we traveled from Kingman down to Cave Creek, visiting Scottsdale, Goodyear, and Carefree in the process. She did good at the pet boarding, didn’t get in any trouble, had no scrapes or bumps, she did sleep the entire day after getting home then ate a bag of dog food, and she’s even more of a velcro dog than before! Poor Harley, I promise we won’t board you again… this year!

Weekly update

What a week! I've been feeling under the weather for so long that I can't even remember how long I've felt under the weather. Then it turned into an actual illness that had me in bed for an entire day. Luckily I'm feeling better, took a shower, and ran some errands. Had this crazy dog by my side the whole time, and she ran around town with me today. She can be a good dog when she wants to be. Spending the day  with the daughter, and new friends. It's great being closer to her than living in Oklahoma (2 hours is a lot easier than 14hrs!) had a great day, met some cool new people.

Our adventures today.

We took the day and went looking for some adventure. We went for a drive to Valley of Fire in Nevada, and while making the trek decided to checkout some of the coves and marinas along Lake Mead. 

We saw some sheep…

And watched the dog go for a swim. 😂 

It was a great day. We're glad we were able to get away and spend some quality time together before the craziness of the holidays.

A quick adventure yesterday.

Got to take a drive into Vegas yesterday, I'm really out of practice driving at night in Vegas traffic! I missed Oklahoma's slower pace for sure! 

It was good drive all in all. I stopped to checkout the sunset over the Colorado River, not many people realize that this section of the 93/11 is actually a continuation of the Grand Canyon. 

The trip was to go pick up the wife after her two week trip in Alaska. I'm bummed I couldn't go, but I'm glad she had a great visit with family. After the stressful past five years she deserved it!

Now she also brought a 100lb tote full of fresh produce and salmon with her! Going to feast like kings the next few weeks. 😜 

Meanwhile the puppy was peacefully sleeping at the dog sitters. 😂

Ok internet I have a question…

I'm thinking of Plasti Dipping my rims black, should I? I would like to just replace the rims, but that's not in the budget at this time. When I do replace them I'll go white a chrome rim, cause chrome will always get you home. 😆 in all seriousness, chrome wheels are a lot easier to maintain and look a lot better to my aging GenX eyes.

Life update.

I haven't intentionally been ghosting the blog, I thought my IG updates were still coming through. My bad. I'll remember that going forward. To update, We have moved back to Arizona.

Life updates.

Our Oklahoma adventure has come to an abrupt end. By Monday we will be back in Arizona to mend some broken wings and plan our next escapade! While our time here was relatively good, there isn't anything keeping us in the Okie State. Franken-Daughter has decided to stay in central Arizona for a little longer. We have family in Northwest Arizona as well as Southern California, so we really need to take this opportunity to get closer to loved ones. Although we are leaving some family in Texas, but they may be moving on as well!

Another reason to leave is I have not been doing well with the heat, humidity, and allergies in the "Southern" Midwest. I have had several severe ear infections that have resulted in loss of hearing. Crazy stuff. The Dr. here says the dryer air of Arizona will help and I may see a return of some of my hearing in the future. 

We're going to miss the green of Oklahoma, there are some really good people here, and the food! Let me tell you about the food. I've gained 70lbs living here! They take comfort food to new heights, BBQ, cobblers, steak and potatoes… and my favorite, fried Okra! 🤤 I've been eating way too much here. 

We didn't see any tornados, but we were close enough to have a long night of sirens blaring and major damage not far from us. We've witnessed hail the size for softballs, and have a dented truck to prove it! We've also seen 6" of rain in a single night, and an ice storm that turned parking lots into ice skating rinks for cars! We've seen snow, frozen lakes, negative temperatures, rain, hail, and triple digits with 50% humidity!

We've seen lightning bugs! Real life lightning bugs, armadillos, raccoons, turtles, frogs, so many deer we've head the chorus of the night dwellers in the ozark mountains!   

We've seen a lot in the twenty months we've been here. Not going to lie, it's bittersweet. I miss the mountains covered in aspens, the clear blue lakes and rivers of the west coast. I belong west of Rockies!

Let me tell you a story about an ungrateful dog. A little quiet corner of Oklahoma this morning. I’ve been contemplating the Ram, what it lacks in off-road abilities it makes up for long distance comfort and gas mileage. On our last trip through the Ozarks we managed 18.6 mpg over 504 miles. While a slide in camper or trailer would have been a better choice for our style of camping, I know we wouldn’t be seeing this kind of gas mileage and exploring small twisty roads in towns like Eureka Springs Arkansas would have been impossible. Overall I’m happy with my choices, however I need to figure out an awning system. For the second time we had to deal with a lot of rain, and sitting in the truck is not a solid plan. Drove through Enid on our way to Arkansas, stopped by one of the largest grain silos I’ve ever seen. These buildings are massive, and there are a dozen of them! So impressive. 

On day two of our Ozarks adventure, we decided to head a little further north making it to Missouri camping by a lake, being dazzled by the chorus of crickets, frogs, turtles, and other unseen nightlife. Sitting by a fire watching dancing lightning bugs the air is starting to cool and the humidity is starting to fade. Not sure where will go tomorrow, we may start heading west and back into the plains. 

We had a great time exploring the Ozarks, it was just a quick trip not nearly enough time to see everything, but just the time spent in the mountains was what we needed.
